Clinics

Asthma

inhalerIf you suffer with asthma it is important for us to see you at least once a year in order to help monitor and manage your asthma. Our Practice Nurses are able to offer a review appointment for this within their normal daily clinics. We will write to you with a reminder when your annual asthma check is due.  Please advise the Receptionist when making the appointment that this is for an asthma review, so that the appropriate amount of time is allocated.

Cervical Smears

Letters advising patients that they are due to have a smear test are sent out centrally and patients are asked to contact their surgery for a smear test. Please advise the receptionist that your appointment is for a smear so that they ensure that sufficient time is allowed for the appointment.

Child Health Services

Baby clinics are held on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month from 1pm to 3pm. Appointments are not required - parent and child can arrive at any point between 1pm and 3pm. Please be aware that you might need to wait.

CKD

Patients who have Chronic Kidney Disease (ranging from mild to severe renal impairment)

COPD

Patients who have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or other Respiratory illnesses are regularly cared for by one of our specialist nurses, supported by a GP. Appointments are arranged yearly and patients are sent a letter offering an appointment time and day - if this is not at a convenient time, patients can contact the practice and a suitable alternative can be arranged. For some patients, these reviews are recommended at six-month intervals depending on symptoms or number of exacerbations (chest infections) a year.

Doppler Assessments

The practice nursing team run clinics during the week to assess the blood pressures in both legs and feet for patients requiring compression stockings. Appointments are arranged through the receptionists.

Diabetes

diabetesPatients with diabetes are cared for through regular check-ups at our specialist clinics run by the practice nurse and Drs Campbell and Purchas. Joint diabetes and heart disease clinics are held so that patients with both conditions can discuss them within the same appointment.

These appointments are really valuable in helping to ensure the patient's condition is managed well, that the medication is correct and to give regular opportunities to ask questions etc. Patients due a check-up will be sent a letter giving them an appointment date and time.

Heart Disease (CHD)

Our Chronic Heart Disease (CHD) clinic is held weekly. Most patients with this condition are seen annually although the interval may be shorter if the patient has recently had a cardiac event or signs or symptoms of some instability etc. Patients will be sent a letter giving details of their appointment with our specialist nurse.

Leg Ulcers

The Nurses provide a leg ulcer clinic at Probus Surgery. This is predominantly for patients requiring compression therapy. We take referrals from the GPs and Practice Nurses or patients can contact us via the reception team.

A full holistic assessment is completed and a treatment plan established with each patient. The Nurses then provide care at a mutually agreed time until the ulcer is healed. A follow-up service to reduce recurrence is also offered on discharge.

Memory Clinics

Clinics are held every other Wednesday morning and are designed to help those patients initially referred for assessment to receive a one-stop service led by a community psychiatric nurse and occupational therapist. Appointments are arranged after referral from a GP.

Minor Surgery

The practice is able to offer a range of minor surgical procedures under local anaesthetic.

    • "lumps & bumps"

    • moles

    • some types of skin cancers

    • injection of haemorrhoids

    • hormonal implants

    • ingrowing toe nails

All procedures are performed by appointment only. You can see your own GP if you require any of these procedures, although Dr Lin has a special interest in this area.

Physiotherapy

back painPhysiotherapy services are available for patients requiring treatment for injuries and ongoing chronic conditions which would benefit from some professional therapy and advice. Patients can be referred via their GP. Physiotherapy clinics are normally held on a Tuesday and Friday. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please let us know.

Podiatry

    • Diabetic foot assessments and treatment of diabetic foot lesions and ulcers

    • Anxiety Disorders

    • Depression

    • Phobias

    • Post-Traumatic Stress

    • Panic Attacks

    • Work Related Stress

    • Sexual Abuse

    • Bereavement & Loss

    • Marital Discord

    • Problems of Sexual Dysfunction

    • Chronic Fatigue

    • Mild-Moderate Eating Problems

Patients are asked to make an appointment with a doctor in the first instance to discuss the situation. If it is felt that the patient would benefit from some confidential counselling this can be arranged.  Appointments are offered at Probus, St. Austell or Truro, dependant on individual need and availability.

Stroke Clinic
