There has been a recent outbreak of mumps in Cornwall, particularly in St Austell, Truro, Penzance and Bodmin. The outbreak is most prominent in 16 to 25 year olds.
If you suspect you, a family member or friend has mumps, please contact the surgery as soon as possible. For information, including symptoms, please click here to be directed to the NHS Choices website.
Mumps is a notifiable disease. It is mandatory by law that all doctors and nurses inform the Health Protection Agency should they see any patient with suspected mumps.
The Health Protection Agency and NHS Cornwall & Isles of Scilly are currently working on a public health campaign targeting schools, colleges and university.
